Looking for new ISP

my bros and are leaving the house and that leaves only 2 and sometimes 3 computers using the internet and having to pay $55 for charter is not to fun. I feel charter is not worth the $55 and was wondering what you guys have and how many PC and how the download is.

went to comcast site and put in my address it says:

We appreciate your interest in setting up Comcast Cable services. It appears that you are in an area which is currently serviced by another cable company.

Our records indicate that your new broadband service provider is:
CHARTER

Please call CHARTER at 8669745046 to set up your new broadband services today!
Can only use charter???!!

    Could be. Many places are locked into only having one provider available.

    If you feel like slower speeds, you may try to check into DSL from Verizon, SBC, AT&T, or some other local provider.

    ^^^that's true around here. Every cable provider has an exclusive with each municipality.

    It really depends on what the three computers are doing. If you're just emailing and browsing the 'net, three computers can get by on a 512 DSL...or even a 256. But.....if you're doing bit torrent stuff, music sharing, Skype, etc., it's a bit like leaving the faucet on all the time. Besides, those services also all use a lot more upload than just browsing the 'net.

    Well I found that ATT will work but yes I do use DC++ on occasions but that also goes VERY slow, along with bit torrents, this is with 3 computers connected. it stays around 5kb/s for dc++ and torrents. is that a problem in my PC? we have the charter 5Mbps download

    Assuming you have basic CATV + 3mb service that's about right. You could cut basic CATV, but then your HSI will jump 10 bucks.

    One thing you can do temporarily is ask for any local promotions. If they're not giving you any deals, then threaten to cancel and they will take you to the dept that cuts deals to keep customers.

    Make sure the account holder is the one that calls and have his SSN ready because they're going to need it.

    Else I would say PM me your MAC ID and I'll provision you for a higher speed for free, but I kinda like my job and an audit would find that I did that and I'd get canned.
