Help get Wake-on-LAN working
My ASRock CONROE945G-DVI says it supports Wake-on-LAN in the documentation but the only thing I can find in the BIOS is Wake-on-RING. Is that the same thing? Also, what setup do I need to get it working in WindowsXP Pro (settings in network connections?)?
I've downloaded several of the Magic Packet programs to try and wake up the target computer and broadcast the packet such as <mac address> 192.168.168.255, but it's not turning on the computer. Firewall appliance checks out okay and is not blocking anything. What about windows firewall?
Any help would be appreciated.

On the ConRoe945G-DVI, you must have "PCI Device Power On" enabled in the BIOS, then you must have the computer in either Standby or Hibernate. Shutdown is exactly what it says and won't work - it isn't coming back on.
Once that was all right, I could use a program called mc-wol.exe to send a magic packet to the correct MAC address and wake up the computers.
In order to be able to wake up the computers all the time, I set up the power off button to Hibernate and asked my kids to shut down their computer by pressing the power off button.
I would like to "delete" or hide the "Turn off" button on the logout screen and in the start menu and have only these button options - Hibernate, Standby, and Restart. Still researching that one...
