So could anyone confirm this? I wanted to try installing Vista to a USB HDD but it says it cannot support installation to a USB drive.

Anyway around this? I find it kinda stupid.

plug it in internally, install it, and then put it back in the enclosure? Seems like a simple work around if it works.

Installing Vista on a USB drive makes little sense.. USB drives are designed to be moved PC to PC, where hardware will differ virtually every time. Why would you need to install an OS that demands a consistent device list and IRQ table on a device that's the antithesis thereof? Sound reasoning from Microsoft, imo.

For use at work since our computers are identical, and some of our guests are using Vista beta, we try to help as best as we can but for the couple calls so far we had to tell them to piss off :P

I wanna get it going just to get it's interface down a bit while at work with the coworkers as well.

So I did that just now, loaded up and everything, didn't find all the drivers though, but I am just testing it for now. Anyways, I then put the drive back in it's enclosure and it didn't work. It told me I needed to try a repair, I'll try it again later, maybe install all the drivers first, or whatever I can find, then repair.
