File missing or corrupt "SYSTEM"

edited September 2006 in Hardware
When I start up my computer, I get an error "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM IS MISSING OR CORRUPT. insert system disc....press r to go into repair.....etc."

Now, I put in my WindowsXP disc and reboot the computer, and nothing happens. It goes back to the same error as before and the disc doesn't load. A bit later on I found out I have to change the boot order in the BIOS for the disc to be loaded. Then another problem arose, I can't enter my BIOS. I hit the "del" button, it pauses for a bit then goes to a blank black screen and flashes with the "_" symbol in the top left corner. Therefore I can't edit my boot order, what do I do??

System:
Pent 4 3.2 ghz
Abit Ni8 SLi motherboard
2 gig RAM
Anything else?

Help Please!

    Check out this thread.

It'll be a lot of reading, but chances are good that the answer you need is in there. :)
