Recommended software for encryption of pdf document?

edited September 2006 in Science & Tech
I am looking for a software to encrypt pdf document, both freeware and shareware, to protect contents of the file from being changed by third party.

I would really appreciate if you would tell me your recommendation on such a software.

Thank you for your time and recommendations!

To stop it from being changed? Well for that you could do something like sign it with a PGP key rather than encrypt it...

    Thank you for your response!

    If the PGP sign method does following jobs, would you be able to explain the PGP...? If not, could you recommend me a software, hopefully both free and shareware, to do the following jobs?;

    1. Protect contents of document (.doc or .pdf format) from being changed by third party.
    2. Let reader of the document to be able to read its contents, and also click a hyperlink (link to website) in the document and go to the website.

I am currently having a busy schedule, and do not have a time to throughly study/research for such a sofware; I truly and sincerely appreciate your time and help for me.

    Thank you!

PDF documents can only be modified by people with thirdparty pdf readers or adobe acrobat proferional.

Encrypting the contents will only keep people without the key from reading it.

Thanks GrayFox for your quick response!

Does this mean if reader/recipient of the document has a PDF reader software, they could change contents of the document?

Does this mean if reader/recipient of the document does not have a key, they could not even open the document?

If you know any softwares to do the jobs mentioned in previous post, would you introduce me such a software?

I attached a word document to this post; I would really appreciate if you would see the document to understand my attempt.

    Thank you so much!

There is a tool that I use that has a lot of different settings for creating PDFs, and it is shareware. I haven't checked it for what you're specifically looking for, but here it is anyway. :)
