Shutdown Problem in ME

edited September 2006 in Science & Tech
Hi,

Sorry if this is already posted somewhere else, but...

I have a lame, slow and ageing HP Pavillion 'built for ME' - still running ME. Even though I know it's a load of crap I really can't be faffed with paying too much for XP when I know full well Vista will come out 6 months later.

Anyway... recently my lame, slow and ageing HP Pavillion 'built for ME' had a very nasty shutdown - worse than the ones it used to have about once every two days- leaving me with a whole host of .dll errors, and a dislike of shutting down. Almost every time I do (being a good Huckle and using "Start>Shutdown") it tells me explorer has caused an error. When I click 'ok' I get all the .dll errors again, then it tries to shutdown for real, automagically. Then the screen goes black with a blinking underscore in the top left corner, and I have to hard shutdown.

I am then meant to sit through 10 minutes of Scandisk, which has recently decided to just loop and never get anywhere (I left it for 2 hours one day...)

So, is this just my pooey pc coming to an end, will I have to put up with it or is there an answer (a nice easy one please, for my small brain...)?

Thanks,

Huckle

Just for the record, that machine will probably not run Vista, it would probably struggle to run XP so I wouldn't concern yourself with buying it (guessing from "Made for ME" and it being a Pavilion).
