Video Driver Help.

edited September 2006 in Science & Tech
I have a Dell C610 Laptop and am going to use to display Bingo Status Boards with multiple TVs, using the S-Video
out. Problem is that I have not been able to get the TV
displays to be clear enough to be usable. The driver for the external monitor will not go above 640 x 480 with 8bit color. I realize that TVs are not very high resolution but it should be better than what it is. Oh, the video board is ATI Radeon and OS is WIN XP SP2.

Dell Technical Support suggested that I change to the
ATI Display Drivers with the newer Catalyst Control Center.
They said that they were more configurable and should solve my problem. So I DL two versions: 1) v6.8 and 2)
Mobility Radeon v5.13.

Whelp, I followed the installation instructions to the "T"
but both of them failed to complete installation ending
with and error "INF Error" "Video driver not found"
Then it suggested to install "standard vga drivers" and
try again. Well, this is the first PC that I have ever
seen that the standard drivers are not to be found anywhere. They just plan are not there. So I did some
googling and could not find any for DL. There were
references to this board having them for DL but I
can not find them here either.

I am at a loss. Can anyone help me out?

Uninstall the (both sets of) Radeon Drivers (from 'Add / Remove Programs') then run this utility, Driver Cleaner Professional, delete the C:\ATI folder and reboot the machine. The standard VGA drivers should install on the card by default. Do not let 'Windows Update' look for a driver when the 'Found New Hardware Wizard' runs.

If this still does not work, I suggest using System Restore to roll back to a date before installing the drivers, alternatively apply (or re-apply) your Windows Service Pack and allow 'Automatic Updates' to update your OS to date.

    The Dell drivers are here.
