Disk boot failure...

DISK BOOT FAILUE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

When I installed Vista I removed the HDD that carried my WinXP installation... I didn't want any problems for when I went back to WinXP. So right now I don't have the HDD with Vista installed and this occurs, it doesn't work with the Vista HDD either. I went through Thrax's 8 Step Guide for fixing a bot issue as well with the repair option... it goes well seemingly, but when I reboot, it doesn't work still.

I know I have my BIOS settings setup, but I cant figure out where the problem lies.

What was the disk configuration (physical) that you had setup? Has it changed?

SATA? If so then make sure that the BIOS did not reset the boot device priority to HDD, and ensure that boot other devices is still enabled, if you are using on/off board SATA controller.

    2 SATA drives... no changes.

Checked bios, nothing wrong. I can even try repairing the HDD so it see's everything and the repair tools and check disk utilities all work on the XP install. B vista has taken something over, I eason the meI installd vista I had a boot loader asking what I wanted to load, I don't get that anymore and I cannotfigure out what vista has in place of the boot.ini stuff.

Does Vista have a boot.ini type of thing? How do I get Vista to ask me what OS to start?
