John Hui a Chinese-American businessman, has been very busy lately, first we heard word of Mr. Hui trying to buy Gateway’s retail arm off them, and now the French IT group Bull has announced that Packard Bell has a new owner, which is non other than John Hui. Aymar de Lencquesaing announced Packard Bell for sale back in June of this year. We still haven’t heard word if Gateway has budged on their retail arm.

From the looks of it John Hui is trying to buy enough companies to create a super company of some sort. After ditching eMachines back in 2004 to Gateway and now trying to buy Gateway's retail side. It just seems to weird that one guy is trying to buy so many large PC companies. Is their something stirring in the PC industry we don't know about? There were a lot of candidates for the takeover of Packard Bell, including a number of investment funds," said Packard Bell chief executive Aymar de Lencquesaing.
The takeover by John Hui offers us the possibility of having an industrial shareholder who understands the cycles of the industry and above all is well connected in China and in Taiwan at a time when the industry is shifting to these countries.
