i was wondering if anyone has any idea if this is possible.

1. shoot a 4 minute video and edit it.

2. compress it for a mobile cell phone type video (mobile phone format?)

3. store it somewhere that others can dial a number to see the video. or access a link on a cell phone of a video on a website to watch it?

looking for any and every idea on any or all of these steps. who REALLY knows their stuff !!!!!!!!???????!!!!!!!!!!! :respect::csimon:

That would all depend on what (if any) video format the phone in question is powerfull enough to process, the speed of the phone's connection to the web (EVDO would be plenty fast enough) and the amount of memory on the phone for use in storing the video while streaming.

It would also help to get all the major cellphone developers to agree on one specific streaming video format and application so you wouldn't need a jillion different formats for a jillion different models of phones. Otherwise I cant see why it wouldn't work.

That's the main issue right there, but yeah if the phone supports video then you just need to ind out what type/format and at what bitrate would be best. Of course 4MB is quite a bit for a phone IMHO... but folks like myself who use ancient technology is at the mercy of text messages only :bawling:

cool cool and thank you all. that helps. so what would be the order in which to follow to get this done. keep in mind, this video has to be accessible on any phone for anyone that would want to see this video. like, a random guy would what? call a number to access the vid? or would it have to be accessed via email on like a blackberry with a link to the video?

I suggesting the video is edited. It is ready to be viewed via cell phones. What would be the very next steps?

due to the nature and complexity of this question, I need numerous responses. It would be interesting to see how many responses it takes to get this thing to work. Just keep in mind the order of what i need done.

I have to edit this video and save it as a _______________ file.
Then save and store it to _________________________ .
Then somehow find out how to stream it.
Then a way for other to tap into that stream from their many different phones.

    ETC.
    ETC.
    ETC.

This should take bits and pieces from many experts on each of the individual steps I imagine. Well, happy pondering!

(i'm not talking about shooting the video with my phone) the idea would be like an ipod that you can watch music videos, etc. on. I want to make a video in that quality that can play on anyone's cell phone. and I want a way for anyone to access this video from their cell phones.

Are you trying to get us to write a business plan for you or what?

PS: My Treo 650 can watch movies too, as will most any PDA phone made within the past year or two. The problem is getting "regular" cell phones to support the features you want.

no, not a business plan. something very useful for all of my crazy films of friends, my sister's wedding, etc. I want to be able to have a friend or sister tap into the short film i made of them and to be able to share it with other friends/family in other places of the US without the need for the internet. simply using a cell phone to watch it. that's all i want to know how to do or research. but speaking of business, how cool would it be if you could call around to salesmen and have a sales point/pitch/background/etc. of them to view before you actually chose to speak with them! maybe you could write your own business plan on that and start a company. good luck.

basically, this will only work over the internet - meaning you must have a phone that is capable of downloading and viewing internet content. You will not be able to dial a number and see a video. Phone systems just do not work like that.

You will set up a webserver, host the content on that, and have internet-capable cellphones connecting to the website and downloading the videos. That's the only way to get this done.

well said Prime. thank you. Case closed.

But, please feel free to converse about tricks, tips, and other ideas for getting it done or future possibilities as they may come along. Why not, one day I bet this is a possibility... and then we can all say that we thought of it first way back when!! Happy thinking.

Well actually if you have phones with Bluetooth and beaming options you can trade files that way. Or if your family have phones that support Mini SD cards or something like it they can watch it that way.

My PPC 6700 have Microsoft Windows CE, which has Media player on it as well as my add on's for Divx and other video formats, I bought a 4Gig card and can just about upload any movie TV show or personal video I want. I can beam it to my wife’s phone and e-mail it to my buddies, I can even upload it to FTP from my phone so I can give out web links for other Internet phones can download and access these videos.

The big thing is what type of phone do they have... if they have a phone older than 2 years they most likely won't be able to watch your videos, but new Razors and pocket PC's and Treos can do what you want.
