Looking for new laptop

I'm currently trying to find a laptop for a friend. She has less than £400 - £600 to spend and is going to be using it for graphical mainly, along with playing movies and surfing the net (no hardcore gaming) She is interested in getting a mac because of here requirements but i think that might go out of her price range. Can anyone suggest any good laptop models which would fit her requirements and have a good battery life? I am a complete novice when it comes to laptops so any help would be great.

    does anyone have any laptop reccomendations they can give? I.e brands to go with brands to avoid?
