im trying to learn Linux and im using SuSE 10.1 and its pretty freaking rad. i have a webserver going, i havent figued out my SMB server yet. anyway, im trying to get VLC installed, and when i go to load the RPM into SuSE, it lists a big list of mising dependancies, where exactly can i find the ~25 dependency packages? ive fiddles with YUM but i dont think the two are related so much

fiddle with yum some more. Get yum configured and use that. It will solve the "RPM Hell" syndrome.

the only YUM commands i was using was YUM UPDATE, and YUM INSTALL (package). i guess ill read the man for it to see if there are commands that force it to find dependencies.

why not yum install VLC or yum search VLC to get the right package name?

If it is in their repos, the dependencies have to be there too
