Latest Barracuda? accoustic management?

edited October 2003 in Hardware
Does anyone have the new SerialATA Barracuda 7200 (i think)?
If so if you run Dtemp? (shareware) then does it report the drive as supporting Automatic Acoustic Management?

As I thought the read/write noises were a bit loud, so I checked and DTemp say that the drive doesn't even support AAM which I think is odd, as most new drives do. So I need to know if mines faulty or not!

Cheers in anticipation!

Looks like you're on your own with this one. If you can't find out the info your after, you could try those silent drive enclosures we were talking about. I bet you any money though, that your access noise ain't half as loud as my RAPTORS... now they are loud, my whole room shakes everytime I defrag.;)

the 7200.7 series don't use AAM - and they don't use the bottom 'Seashield' plate either - this is true for both PATA and SATA versions.

    cheers!
why the hell don't they use aam - what weirdos. I noticed the sea shield was gone, thats a shame I liked that, made them feel like solid drives!

speed basically - if you want SILENT drives you can still order the Barracuda V, which has AAM, but as most people are more interested in speed, most retailers are stocking the 7200.7s.
