Web pages stop loading randomly.

Within the last couple weeks I've had this extremely annoying issue with my internet connection. When I load up a page the webpage either loads almost instantly like it should, loads none of the screen and just sits there, or loads part of the screen as seen in the attached image and sits there. There must be something wrong more than a slow connection because sometimes pages will load normally, but if they don't load right away, they don't load at all.

Also it tends to load pages incorrectly as shown in my second image attached. If I press f5 (reload) I can play russian roulette with my connection until it loads fully and correctly. Its so annoying, happens in IE and Firefox.

I have tried deleting cookies, restarting my modem/router, restarting my computer, and deleting my temp files.

I connect via a ethernet cable to a d-link router. I use Nvidias firewall built into their nforce4-sli chipsets and I have my d-link router enabled.

Thanks for any help.

first thing I would do is try bypassing the router and go directly through your modem to see if that takes care of it. then reply back or take it from there

Okay, tried that, still no good. I should also mention that I run my 360 on the same exact cable that connects to my PC, and I never DC from any games on my 360. Same with playing online games on my PC, the connection is fine, it seems to only happen with web pages and bitorrent downloads, the download crawls at 1-3 kb/s even if I'm connected to 15 peers.

I had symptoms fairly similar just a couple weeks ago on a client's XP machine. Very slow connection, sometimes pages loaded, sometimes just part, etc. I downloaded Firefox, no help at all. After a lot of screwing around, I installed my little USB port Ethernet adapter. Viola!

Ran over to B Buy and got a new PCI Ethernet and problem was solved. Sometimes when a NIC card goes bad, the symptoms are weird and hard to diagnose. But the fact that your 360 with it's own NIC has no problems makes me wonder a bit....

I think I may have fixed the issue, it was possibly spyware. Usually after a reboot my connection is fine, so it may just be this, but I reDLed Adware, and it found 8 things Windefender didn't, so I removed that crap, rebooted, and things seem okay now. I do need a new NIC card anyway so I can bridge my 360 to my PC since my 2nd Ethernet port decided it wanted to crap out on me awhile back.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?ATT=33156139&CMP=AFC-SlickDeals&Item=N82E16833156139

I like trendnet for value, so there ya go :D

wouldnt hurt to reinstall your nic anyways though, reseat and new drivers. if you are bored.

Nice, I was poking around Newegg since you tossed me a link to them anyway, and I might just wait until a usb or PCI wireless adapter goes on sale and grab that. I have a netgear 11mbps wireless card around here but I lost the antenna thingy and can't seem to find somewhere where I can just buy a bunch of antennas :banghead: so the connection is either non-existant or so weak its like having 14.4kbps again

Thanks for all the help on this though everyone, I just had some spyware throttling my damn system. (hopefully)

Also try checking your MTU. That sometimes creates the symptom you mentioned. DSLReports.com has a tweak tool you can use to test what your settings are.

I see that you had previously attempted to bypass the router, but I am wondering if you have checked the logs? Any type of network attacks occurring at the firewall? Also, have you been paying attention to your modem diagnostic lights when this is happening? Which DLINK router is it? Make sure that you have the port triggering application setup done at the router level for the best results with torrent clients and any other port specific application. You can check the website http://www.portforward.com for more information.

As far as software is concerned, you can try a slew of things if the problem is not corrected. First, run an anti-virus application to detect any lingering problems. Did this happen after anything in particular was done to the pc, like adding or updating a piece of software? If so, then use system restore to rollback to a better time. Update Firefox, check if you get any change using the fasterfox extension, which can cache pages more that the browser can. Release your TCP/IP settings and renew them, update the drivers for the LAN card, verify if the problem is only with your machine, by using another one if possible to see if there is any change in results...etc.

    Process of elimination...

I think it just happened to be that the onboard NIC was dying on my a8n-sli. I bought a new NIC from Newegg for like 10 bucks and the problem is fully fixed. My speeds are even faster than before which was expected to happen slightly. Doesn't suprise me as the MoBo comes with 2 ethernet ports and the other one crapped out on me awhile back. Oh well, thanks for all the help folks!

This problem is usually hardware related. I was on the verge of re-imaging my machine until I decided to power-cycle my wireless router. Web pages would not load completely, and chat services would disconnect after 1 - 10 seconds of being connected. After unplugging/plugging my router back in, the problem was completely resolved. So in short, just try a wired connection if possible. This will rule out a problem with the OS. If wired connection works ok, the problem would almost always be the wireless router, or wireless adapter. Hope this helps someone!
