Please help strcodec and virusburst

Recently my computer was infected when strcodec installed. It caused the installation of virusburst. I went through the forums and ran Hijack this and
from the forum entitiled "Pcodec and virusburst probs - help! ", i
deleted the file

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {202a961f-23ae-42b1-9505-ffe3c818d717} - C:\Program Files\PCODEC\isaddon.dll (file missing)

because that was the only file i could find with hijack this.
Next i ran VundoFix. It didnt find anything and it seemed that i had smithfraud because i was being alerted that my system had a system failure. this even occured in safe mode. So while in safe mode i ran SmithfraudFix as instructed from the same forum. Afterward the computer was rebooted and the problem of smithfraud was fixed. Then i proceeded by running fixwareout.exe because my computer was still acting funny. After that completed i went back and all the program files for strcodec and vb (virusburst) were uninstalled and deleted. When i signed on in normal xp my computer would not load explorer properly i have to stop the process and use run from the task manager in order for it to run properly and show my desktop. Also i keep getting messages that windows sockets failed to initialize. So i cant load my virus protection, spyware protection and my internet is not working. I have no ip address and ipconfig as well as right clicking on the local internet connection and clicking repair will not fix the problem. So i cant seem to get the internet. I have no clue what to do. I tried running lspfix. because hijack this said that lsp is missing #1 out of the gap (010). I have the logs but i cant upload them untill i return home tonight. If anybody has any suggestions please help me. Im litterally at a stumped. Also i think you all should know that i have some knowledge of computers, however i am still pretty much a newbie. Please simplify the steps so that i may understand them. I will load the reports off another computer when im able to, this is how i had to run hijack this and the other programs. So downloading on to the infected computer is out. Im curious if repairing the windows installation will fix the problems but i cant risk loosing data. I do have a external hdd, and havent had the chance to back up my files. My computer is approximately 6 yrs old. it is a gateway 1.4gig processor with 512 rdram.

I wouldn't rely on a system repair neccessarily fixing the problems but also a repair install of the OS will not cause you to lose data normally. Only a complete clean install with a format will do that. I take it from your post that you have Hijack This already. Make sure it is version 1.99.1 and run a log on that PC and post it here in your next reply. It's the only way any of us will be able to give you direction. The problem with the internet connectivity is likely due to the missing file in the LSP stack. That can be remedied from the command prompt if we find it's actually a problem. Please post the Hijack log and I'll take a look.

so i restarted my computer right now and my xoftspy loaded and found a Mirrar in the registry which is a type of worm. So apparently windows sockets are initialized now. Im guessing the worm was stopping me from accessing the internet. Explorer is actually running smoothly again. and i dont have to use the task manager to remove and rerun a copy of explorer

Im not sure what caused these problems to appear in the first place because i rebooted my computer each time that i ran the programs listed above. I guess this means ill have to post another hijack this now. So here's what i have at the time as the current hijackthis logfile.

I still dont seem to have administrator rights so i think im going to have to change it back in the control pannel. upon restart it still does not allow for internet start up. Should i use stinger? see if there is another worm?

Mirar is a type of adware sometimes added by a worm. So am I correct to assume this PC has access to the internet now? If so restore your administrator rights through the control panel. If you have problems with this let me know. Yes, spyware, worms, etc can effect the LSP stack. Usually we use LSP fix to remove malicious files from the stack but if there are no malicious files there and there are needed files missing we can use a command from the command prompt to reset the stack. If you currently do not have internet access on this machine let me know and disregard the below instructions for now. I don't recommend using Stinger at this point. I would prefer using Ewido. Please follow the instructions below, if you currently have internet access from this machine (you might want to print these instructions since you won't have access to the internet for part of this fix):

Please download Ewido Anti-Spyware from my signature below. Save the install file to your desktop.
    • Install Ewido by double clicking the installer.
    • Follow the prompts. Make sure that Launch Ewido is checked.
    • On the main screen under Your Computer's security.
      • Click on Change state next to Resident shield. It should now change to inactive.
      • Next to Last Update, click on Update now. (You will need an active internet connection to perform this)
      • Wait until you see the Update succesfull message.
Note: If the Update now option is grayed out, follow the steps below.
        • Click on Update on the toolbar.
        • Under Manual update, click on the Start Update button.
        • Wait until you see the Update succesfull message.
    • Right-click the Ewido Tray Icon and select Exit. Confirm by clicking Yes.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
    Ewido manual updates.
Download the Full database to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder and install it by double clicking the file. Make sure that Ewido is closed before installing the update.

    • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
    • Login on your usual account.

as it turns out i still do not have internet access. Mirrar was the only threat detected by xoftspy and was deleted. I am familiar with Ewido however i have found that on some of the scans it only says it deletes them, and the same values reappear during the next scan. its weird cuz when i go to ipconfig /release it releases the ip address which is currently 169.254.87.48
however when i try to renew it alerts me that An error occurred while renewing interface local area connection : An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket.

im having a brain fart. i ment to say that since the same values appear with each scan of ewido im not to confident about using it. I dont understand why the O10 log from the first registry log changed because i dont have internet access still, then it should go on with its weird cuz ...

That's a strange issue about Ewido. Are you sure it's actually removing infections the first time? Or is it scanning in its own quarantine? It's a great program, but we'll worry about that later. Are you familiar with resetting the LSP stack from the command prompt? Do this:

    Click Start--->Run.

In the run box type the following verbatim--

    netsh winsock reset catalog

then press enter. A command window will open and close, this is normal. After you do this restart the PC and check for internet connectivity. If you receive any error messages let me know what they say.

sorry for replying so late but ive been out of town for the past days. Resetting the lsp stack fixed that problem. I have a question is there anyother things i can do with hijack this in order to speed up my computer because it acts buggy and is slow.
Also i cant post a hijack this log because something is stopping it from running

Can you tell me what you mean by buggy? That could mean many things that include "related to malware". Hijack This is not a stand alone tool so using it to "speed up" your PC is not recommended. It also requires a great deal of study and research to determine if something is bad. If you're bogging down then I recommend downloading CCleaner from the below link:

    http://www.ccleaner.com/

It is an all purpose cleaner that removes stuff the Windows utility doesn't. Don't use it's issues feature but use the cleaner.

Please respond back to my question about "buggy operation".
    :)

This appears to be a new development. Are you saying that you can't run Hijack This now? If that's the case then rename the file HijackThis.exe to scanner.exe. Doing this should confuse any malware preventing Hijack This from running. Could you also please disable Windows Defender auto protect for now, just until I tell you to reactivate it. If this scan produces a new log please post it back in your next reply. And before you post that log please run a Bit Defender online scan from my signature below. It will also produce a log. Please post that log in your next reply as well.
