Overclocking my K7S5A Pro.

OK I am finally getting around to OCing this thing. I got a 1800+ that can do 2.5GHz (I will moving it later this Christmas when I get a new board) and some DDR that will do ~156 but thats past what I heard this board can do.

I think OCworkbench has the hacked OCing BIOS that is needed for this. Is this correct?

And this page page shows me how to flash the BIOS which I have never done before.

There are 2 of the latest versions of the BIOS in the first link. chb0120.zip and Chb0120f.zip, the second w/fastwrites. Which one should I use.

If I am correct or someone corrects me I will do this today sometime and hopefully add more folding power.

Use the one w/o the fastwrites and with lan (if applies). The flashing proggy should tell you how. I haven't done it in ahwhile. After you flash it I suggest you change the NB heatsink or atleast put a fan on it. You should hit 147mhz FSB from the get go and try shooting for 150. If you get there, try a software based fsb program to go to 166mhz. AFAIK you can't go higher. IM me if you need clarification. Good luck! :)

[Edit] Just say it's pro  but I don't think there's much diffrence. [/Edit]

Swapped the SD for DDR, added a 40mm fan on top of the stock HS, and each BIOS has LAN or w/o LAN. The difference is w/ or w/o fastwrite.

AFAIK fastwrites usually make the PC unstable and the performance increase (if any) isn't noticeable.

So basically its 'A:\>aminf355.exe CHB0120.rom' and press enter? Thats all there is to flashing a BIOS?

I dont need performace increase, I need mhz increase.

I am not looking into buying another motherboard. I am getting a new NF7-S (unless there is someting better) for Christmas. I will have a leftover motherboard the way it is now. I think I might buy my roommates 1700+ tho and stick it in the K7S5A after the KX7 gets move down.

Got the floppy ready to go and am ready to flash.
