Windows Update Problem

edited September 2006 in Science & Tech
Hello everyone, I am a rookie at this. I have read tons of forums and have had lots of good info on them such as how to re-format harddrives etc. Well, my question is; I have a Sony Vaio VGC-RA840G and I got it without a OS, so I purchased a DVD recovery from sony and did the recovery and it worked gread. Anyway the problem is that when I am doing the windows update and it asks me to restar my computer I do that but when it is booting up it does not stop booting, it shows the window logo but then it restarts itself. In the 3rd restart it asks me if I want it to start windows normally or in safe mode, I try normally and it does the same thing but when I set it to safe mode it works can any one help me here I try my best and I have had it I just don't know what else to do.... Sorry for this long essay.....

I moved your post off to its own thread in order for it to get more attention. :)

Were you doing multiple updates, or just one? If just one, do you know which one?

First I would ask what OS version are you running? I supose it may be XP. If you are continually experiencing issues when the system is booting up it seems some of the system files may have gotten corrupted. I would try to get my hands on an XP CD and do a repair.

Put the disk in and boot to the XP CD. After it comes up press a key to load from the cd and the proceed to select R for repair when you get to that point in setup. Don't choose the recovery console option press next and you will have to accept the license agreement by pressing F8. Click R to launch the repair (there may be a couple of steps I am leaving out but basically you must go next to acept the license agreement, that is the repair option that you want to run). What will occurr is that all of your system files will get blown out and replaced by the system files off of the CD. that should remedy your issue.

Thax profdlp for posting my post in the correct thread and for replying also matrixx2k for replying too.

Well, the OS is Windows Media Center 2005 that comes in the recovery DVD that I purchased from Sony. I kind of figure out what the problems may be I went to bed really late last night trying to figure it out and today in the morning I did the recovery all over again and I installed installed diffent types of programs that I need and restarted after every installetion to see if the programs are the problems. I found out that when I am I install my 2Wire DSL portal everythigs goes well (I am able to search the net and make online downloads) Now here is the problem, when I restart my computer after the 2Wire installation that is whe it just keeps restarting and restarting without stopping. I go in to Safe Mode and remove the 2Wire DSL program and restart my computer and it restarts without any problems. So I think the problem is with my 2Wire DSL portal, but what I don't get is that it works perfectly on my other sony but not with this one VGC-RA840G. Can any of you help me out why it is that it does this when I instal my 2Wire DSL software.
Thank you so much for your help..

I am at a loss on this one. Have you checked with Tech Support from 2Wire DSL?
