New power supply, comp wont turn on though

edited September 2006 in Hardware
I bought a new case yesterday along with a 500 watt pwer supply. My problem is once I got everything installed, it wouldnt start at all. This morning i tried using the old Psue I have and the computer wont start but atleast I see some light in the fan LED for atleast a second. I was wandering if the power supply i bought might be faulty and is it possible for 500 watt to be too much?

Thx for all the help

There's no such thing as too much power; the system will only draw what it needs. The fact that it started after you changed the case makes me think it might be a good idea to check the following:

Are you sure you have all the connectors for the case in the right place on the motherboard?

Is there any possibility that one of the standoffs for the MB (or something else, like a pinched wire) is shorting out somewhere?

Are all the power connectors to the MB attached properly?

Is the CPU fan connected in the proper location?

You might also try a BIOS reset, if none of the above helps. :)

Are the front panel cables(the ones for the power/reset switches & leds) connected to your motherboard correctly?
