I am curious if anyone knows of a good DSL modem I could possibly get... a PCI card would be sweet!

pci dsl modem = asking for problems, pain to diagnose, not always on, etc...

the dsl modem you want should really be formed around the requirements of the isp. However, just so you know I have always had a swell time with the Zoom X3/X5 which is highly configurable and fairly cheap.

I am trying to build my own type of router/DSL modem based on Smoothwall and using miniITX or nano itx hardware... and possibly a sweet case mod with my linksys or belkin router added in one small package :)

OK well, which is better... the X3 or X5?

PCI ADSL modems are pretty much worthless. Before you buy anything speak with your ISP. Depending on the equipment they're using at your CO different chipsets may work better than others.

They won't do crap, I used to work for VerizonDSL... it's basically "we don't support it and won't answer" type of thing.

I think if I could find a really good wireless router/DSL modem combo I'd go with it though.

To be honest I don't have much idea on how DSL is sold or implamented in the US so won't be of much use in picking hardware.

What speeds do you think you will be buying? Is ADSL2/2+ getting rolled out there any time in the near future?
