Lost all CD/DVD drives Need help

edited September 2006 in Hardware
Hello All,

Gnome said you could help.

Both my DVD drives are missing.

Have tried to update the drivers. Windows looks for them, nothing found.

Have Pioneer DVR-108 and DVR-109 drives and they show up in device manager with exclamation points on them.

Have updated my Via chipset drivers.

The drives show up in Safe mode with no exclamation points.

Problem occured when uninstalling Roxio Media Creator 9. Program would not launch, so I uninstalled it through Add/Remove programs. When I tried to install it again, the drives were missing.

Any and all help would be appreciated. I really would like to get this fixed without reinstalling the operating system.

Running Windows XP Media Center edition

Loose/bad IDE Cable. Check the connection to the drives and the motherboard (with the PC off :)).

Would that work since the drives work properly in safe mode? I mean its a possibility tho

    I can't believe I didn't find this thread sooner.

This problem is a classic upperfilters/lowerfilters problem. Follow the instructions Prof provided, it'll work.

try to unplug both drives and reboot. then plug one drive and reboot. then plug last drive in and reboot. your PC might see it then. hope this helps.
