Prof may correct me here but if you take the multiplier 7.5 times the bus speed 133MHz then you come to a CPU frequency of 997.5MHz which manufacuters will round to 1000MHz or 1GHz. Unless Prof corrects me here, this CPU speed is right on.

Let's see if Prof has anything to say before we continue. I hope this isn't too much of an inconvenience. Sometimes these situations are enough to drive you nuts!

It is a very slow process. I really appreciate your help but I need to get this up and running again very soon. I'll keep an eye on this thread.

I have gotten another opinion on our problem and was told it might be a matter of reformatting the drive! Since I've followed the advice from this webboard I'd like to get immedate help on this matter before I wipe out my drive.
Will someone please reply as to what I need to do next.

    Profdlp?

Reformatting the drive is a possibility even though I hate to say it. We had a victim the other day who had a bad worm infection such as yourself and she had to do a rescue recovery as well. If you have a backup of your data I would recommend to go ahead with the format. You might be able to do a repair install of the OS only in Windows 2000 but any malware there would just resurface once you were finished. Hopefully prof will be on soon and will let us know if the CPU speeds are correct, otherwise I would say just go ahead with the format.

You've got it right on the CPU speed. :)

What is the status of the computer right now?

It keeps rebooting itself. It won't boot up to the desktop screen. If I power it off, then back on I get a screen that tells me, "During the last boot up, your system hung for an improper CPU speed setting. Your system is now working in safe mode. To optimize the system performance and reliablikity, make sure the CPU speed conforms to the specifications of your CPU".

We've checked the speed at it appears that it is set properly.

Try resetting the BIOS by shutting the machine down, unplugging it from the wall, removing the CMOS battery, then moving the jumper over to the clear or reset position. Wait fifteen minutes, then move the jumper back, reinsert the battery, plug it in and fire it up.

Then immediately go in to the BIOS and make sure all the settings are correct.
