read: this is freaky!

after a system recovery we reinstalled new versions of avast adaware spybot and hijack this and we are still not able to get the net back up and running...

we have run this so far plus a few other tweaks and nothing seems to help

ATF-cleaner
CCsetup 133
Drweb cureit
kasperskylab
superantispyware
vundofixit
winsockxpfix
HJTsetup
drtcp021
and a few other things I'm running out of troubleshooting mode here *&)%&%^&$

along with disabling restore and reenabling restore and emptying the dns and resetting it clearing out temp files and such so far no good~
I have walked thru about 4 different sugestions along with some of my own but nothing is getting this up again..
seems the router is sending signal to the system but the system is not seeing it.. i have a green light on
and a blinking orange light on realtek NIC LAN card should they both be green and is this finally a parts issue??????

we have found that a direct connect to modem then it is fine until a reboot .. once rebooted it will not connect until you rehook up the modem to it and then reroute thru the router.. then all is fine until a reboot

all scanners spyware virus and cleaners say nothing is found.. it originally had wsock winsock and w32trojan-gen infections.. after cleaning it we are having trouble with internet connection.. not sure if it is a hardware issue or if it is registry changes causing the problem.

HP is willing to take it in to bench test it .. still under warranty.. but hey not if it turns out to be a software issue causing it...

the thing that gets me is ...with an external ethernet card we could connect to the net...

until the power went out and then the same problem.. found out it is fixed by connecting to the modem and then redirecting via the router...
sounds to me more like a registry issue....but i have never in my experiences dealt with such trickery...

LOL but hey technology has to keep one on their toes .. does it not?

anyone have something on this one???

    Linda,

I got lost in this part:

Sounds like you can get the Internet by doing something but I didn't understand. Are you saying it works when you go around the router but not through the router? Then you unplug it all and go through the router?

Yes exactly it will reset when direct connecting to the modem then re route it back via the router and it will stay that way until a re-boot and the connection is no longer able to connect unless you plug into the modem and redirect back to the router. on a reboot the internet can not log in until it is directed thru the modem, once it is, then you can hook up the router to it and it will work until a reboot... strange symptoms??? I have never run into this one before!

A few ideas. Any chance it's the MAC address of your computer's Ethernet card? And if so, can you clone that MAC address in the router?

Before you get to focused on your computer, have you tried another one? Can borrow a friend's router and try that?

It appears that this was a router setting issue:
It seems the router was working fine for a year (even with a change of computers all around) before it recognized that the new owner was me and both my sons had a new computer added (seems it had one computer being used by two different people) but never changed his ip and computer title. I have manually gone in and updated this information and we are all able to get on now.. totally a router issue...
thank you for the input.. but this was not spyware or virus issue as we thouht it was in the first place.. seems the router needed to be manually reset even after we were using it for a year the way it was .. ?? oh well live and learn...
