Hey all,

The following two processors are the same price:

Intel Xeon 5060
2x2mb Cache
3.2 GHz
1066 MHz
FSB

Intel Xeon 5110
4mb Cache
1.6 GHz
1066 MHz
FSB

It looks to me that for the same price you get a slower version of an updated processor perhaps?!

Can anyone inform the uninformed (me lol)

The 5110 is the new Core Architecture (Woodcrest) and not based on Netburst like the 5060 (Dempsey). Both are dual core, but the 5110 uses significantly less power and does significantly more IPC than that Netburst based dud. Go with the 5110 over the Dumpster. :D

EDIT: Looking at the prices listed at Newegg, the Woodcrest 5130 would be in the same price range as the 3.2 GHz 5060. It is also a 1333 fsb part, bot a 266 fsb proc like the 5060 or 5110. It should still run on the same mobo as the slower and cheaper 5110 though.

    Also the 5110 supports SSE4

Ah ok, so basically the 5110 is the one to go for out of the two-

For what we want I doubt it will make a huge difference- its not an overly demanding application, but still nice if there is a choice to choose the right one :p

    Thanks!
