Addresses

edited October 2006 in Science & Tech
I'm new here and really a computer illiterate beyond the basics. What headings and menus do I need to click through to find my ISP address? Is my ISP another name for my DSL provider or my browser provider? Or something different?

    You mean your IP address?

    Just go to www.whatismyip.com

that will tell you your "external" IP - the one that the world sees.

Your "internal" IP is the address that your dsl modem gives your computer. You can find that by clicking start --> run, and then typing in "cmd" and hitting enter.

    At the command prompt, type:

    ipconfig /all

and push enter. That will tell you the "internal" IP.
