Problem with "ipconfig" command in START>RUN menu

HI guys. When I try to use the command "ipconfig" on the START>RUN menu how come the black dos-box pops up for 1 second and then disappears. It was supposed to stay open right so that I can input the commands in it right? Pls advise on how to fix it.

    type cmd instead of ipconfig to get to the command prompt. After that, you can type ipconfig, or whatever else.
