Virus/Spyware/Rootkit - help required
Hello All,
I have come here desperate for some help to fix my computer.
Recently I believe that I have contracted some form of virus or spyware onto my computer.
I have scanned the computer with Avast! anti-virus(boot + regular), spybot search and destroy, spy sweeper, spyware doctor but am unable to find a solution. All with latest definitions
After scanning the computer I still can not resolve the situation. The symptoms are as follows:
1. Msn messenger will not log in
2. Hotmail account website will not load
3. Microsoft Website will not load
4. Msn website will not load
5. Outlook Express will not connect
It seems that anything that requires to connection to anything Microsoft will not load. I have disabled the firewall and checked through my router settings but to no avail. I also checked my hosts file to look for anything rejecting perhaphs ms related ip's but nothing out of the ordinary is seen.
Since then I have formatted my comptuer completely installing WindowsXP back onto the system and vola, with no drives nothing installed I can access the internet but with the same symptoms as above, I cant even authenticate my windowsxp copy. I can visit anysite other than what seems to be ms related.
The fresh format has not helped and a virus scan on this fresh format is not finding anything either, Im on my laptop now connected to the home network and everything loads fine.
Any guidance in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
