New User with brand new trojan...
Hi, I have a new trojan that goes by several different names. One is Trojan.Sfstrike.a, and any forum I check, the people seem to have either never heard of it, or they have not created some sort of resolution.
This trojan
* keeps reinstalling itself and downloading several different viruses.
* has reset my home page to http://www.theuptodatesecurity.net/
* disabled me from changing my desktop wallpaper
* and also disabled task manager initially but I managed to fix this
here is my log file from Hijack this....

Please download SmitfraudFix
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.
Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
- Restart your computer
- After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
- Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
- Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
- Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmdSelect option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".
The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart anyway into normal Windows. A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.
so far it has repaired my home page so thats great, but my desktop is in the same state and it wont let me change it.

How to see hidden files in Windows
Reboot your computer into Safe Mode
Then delete these files or directories (Do not be concerned if they do not exist)
c:\wp.exe
C:\Program Files\Security iGuard\
C:\WINDOWS\System32\wldr.dll
c:\wp.bmp
Reboot your computer to go back to normal mode.
Once you have rebooted download the following reg file to your desktop by right clicking on the link, and selecting save as.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/reg/smitfraud.reg
Once it has downloaded, double-click on the smitfraud.reg file on your desktop and when it asks if you would like to merge the data, click on the Yes button.
Reboot your computer and you should now be able to change your desktop settings back to how you would like it. If your desktop still looks strange, go into your display properties and click on the Themes tab. Change the theme to Windows XP and you will now be using the default Windows XP settings. Then change them as you see fit.
I
cannot
believe
this
Its. Fixed perfectly. Do you have any idea how much time and effort you saved me? Without you I would have to reinstall my computer again for the third time this month. I cannot believe this and I am speechless.
Your act of great great kindness will never be forgotten in my heart, I hope one day I can repay you somehow.
Man thank you SOOoO MUCH! you are incredible and an asset not just to computer analysts, but to good souls and plain goodness.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
you'll always have a friend in me,
Emanuel
