RPC Call shutdown making a comeback!

Remember the old RPC call problem of a couple years ago? Well, I've seen it happen on several computers recently. Very annoying!
I started looking into it, and here's how I fix it now:
In Administrative Tools, I go to Services, then I double click on Remote Proceedure Call to open the Properties screen for it. Then I click on the Recovery tab, and change the 3 settings from "Restart the Computer" to "Restart the Service", then change the "Restart Service After" thing to 0 minutes.
Haven't had it shut down on me again like that.:Pwned:
But the problem is probably still in the computer, so I have to find out how to cure that again also.
Does RPC even need to start at all to run the computer?

Pretty much. Maybe you could boot up...I'm not sure. But if you look at the properties screen for RPC again, check the dependencies. 53 services depend on RPC in my configuration...not the least of which is several services required for my anti-v. Also the COM system, any networking functions at all, blah, blah, blah.
I'm curious have you looked at the event viewer to see what it's telling you? Unfortunately, the correct event might not be the RPC shutdown, but might be an error in one of the many services that depends on RPC. If you know the exact time RPC stumbles, that might help you find the right error. That might at least lead you to the cause, rather than to the effect.
Good call. Haven't seen that in a while. Click here to see more.
