Desperate RAID situation...

edited October 2003 in Hardware
Hey guys. Just found this great forum. I've seen this problem discussed here, but have not found any specific fixes. Wondering if someone can help.

I have a primary hard drive ( C: ) where WindowsXP Pro is installed, and a completely separate RAID 0 set ( F: ) comprised of 4 120GB drives.

My RAID is used *exclusively* to store & serve my music collection (about 80,000 songs). It was created using a Medley/SiliconImage 0680 ATA133 PCI card and driver 1.1.0.11.

Problem is that upon boot I get a nasty warning saying Master 0 drive cannot be found. Windows continues to boot just fine, but the F: drive is non-existent (does not appear) inside Windows Explorer.

I haven't done anything whatsoever to tweak or mess with this. It has been running fine for a year and a half. Just suddenly...POOF...it's gone.

Here's the error that is showing in the SiliconImage log:
19-October-2003 15:43.24 Warning - Port Error - Device Selection Timed Out
Error ocurred on member 0 of set 0 on adapter 0. Primary Master - CDB 28 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 00
I'm not interested in added performance or how fast or impressive my benchmarks are...I just need to get my files back.

As I'm sure you can tell, I barely have a clue as to what the heck I'm doing. Do any of you have ideas on what things I might check?

A MILLION thanks!

ah man, this is scary, i just went through the exact same thing 2 days ago.

    here is my situation.

    36gig for OS

4 x 120gig raid 0 for apps, songs, games etc..

1 morning, bam! raid 3ware controller LOST its settings, yes, as in no raid 0 was ever defined.

this is what i did. went into the 3ware bios, created raid 0 (always warning me that it will erase all files on my hdd).
went back into OS, imported drive in disk management, but DO NOT FORMAT IT. it will just assign a drive letter to it.

and get GetDataBack for NTFS!!! and have it scan your drive, it will take like 2-3 hours.

im happy to say, i got every single file off my array.

    hope this helps ya

That's a genius fix...but your are right. Scary as hell.

Thank you for taking the time to post.

If this works and I can get it back, I *really* need to figure out a way to back up 450GB of data. :rolleyes2

Any second opinions on this topic?

Oh...PS... I already own a license for FileScavenger 2.0 (http://www.quetek.com) Will this do the same thing as GetDataBack for NTFS?

    thanks again.

not sure, i also used R-Studio NTFS , but that didnt work.
the only thing that worked for me was GetDataBack for NTFS.
