A Deathstar thought
I have stated in my sig that I am still bitchin about my Deathstar.
But I was wondering if there is even a glimpse of hope retrieving my data.
It began acting up earlier this year, I have done some umm... retrofitting that is why I have not RMA'ed it.
I am wondering now if it would help changing the PCB?
The thing is that a pin in the connector broke off and I dunno how well the soldering job is holding up.
When connect the drive the computer freezes it will not even post.
It is also making an odd whirring noise.
Could this be because of a bad connection in the connector?
Or is it a sign of a total meltdown of my Deathstar.
The most expensive paperweight in the house.
Shorty knows how many headaches this drives has caused.

Is your a Deathstar casemod? If so do you have any pics?
I have now had my third fail, this one was a replacement for one of the originals. I bought three, two failed and were rmad. One of those has now failed. One of the originals is still working fine.
I have found that in the early stages of failure they are very position sensitive. They run better standing on their side than laying flat. Hey, it let me retrive my wifes 'favorites' folder.
WuGgaRoO, are you talking about my sig?
It ain't exactly a Deathstar, but it is as close as you can get.
At the moment.

You can create a custom sign for you sig.
Carefully unhooking the PCB from the good drive, I attached it to the old drive (removing it's PCB and making the proper connections). Put the drive into a PC, fired it up and the drive worked without a problem. Copied all the data off of the hard disk to a new Western Digital and he was off to the races. Made $900 that day
It can be done... but you need an identical drive to donate its' PCB.
