this isn't exactly new, but I didn't see a thread about it so....

http://battlefield2142.ea.com/battlefield/bf2142/

Demo is available now. Ignore the 'pre-order today' rubbish, you can get the demo without pre-ordering. Demo contains one map and 2 game modes: 'conquest' which is the standard battlefield mode and 'titan' which is the new mode with huge flying battleships.

I dunno wht FatFunkey is talking about, the game looks and plays amazingly well, better than BF2 IMHO. My desktop keeps disconnecting, but my laptop plays it without a hitch, been playing since the day it came out and still haven't had an issue on my laptop. I am kinda iffy about EA, but I'll buy the game sometime soon once I get some work stuff done.

eh im just saying all it is BF2 With Reskins, feels more like a Mod or expansion rather then a game worth 50bucks

im hesitant on buying it :L because i dont want to go out spend 50 bucks and it pulls a BF:VN

i mean there are things i like, Pods, Titant Mode, ect. But its i dont like i was like how can a hover tank not go over water...or APCs now blow up if in water ?: and how the mechs are over powerd, seriously if one team has both mechs its pretty much over because u can go kamakazi with a transport and they still will be standing D:

Mabey with all the unlocks it will balance it out :?

im 50/50 on this game after playing the demo

I'm not going to buy it in principal. EA are bastards and that's that, heh. Not to mention I'm pretty sure the game will have virtually no single player content and for some unknown reason wont let you change any single player options and you'll have to play online but you'll have to spend months playing to get decent items by then the'll just keep releasing "booster packs" you have to buy else other people will end up with better weapons anyway. Not to mention it is probably going to be laden with many severe issues that EA will drag their feet over fixing.

    So yeah, fool me once...

I see where you're coming from, but BF:vietnam was pretty much the same: a slightly upgraded BF:1942 engine with all new maps, vehicles etc and that was a fun game. Personally I like it. I've spent hours playing the Titan mode, and found it much more entertaining than anything BF:2 had to offer. Maybe that's just because I'm a sci-fi nerd though :D

I am having a hard time buying it as well becuase I hate EA, for what Enverex said. EA has let the Battlefield fans down time and time again, then again and again, almost like they hate us or something.

I may choose to not buy it, no matter how much I enjoy this demo, until I can feel safe that EA will actually work with us on the issues, though I have not found any yet with the demo. With the exception that my desktop always disconnects from the game server.

yeah, ive played like 10 mins of the demo and saw the training video.. theres not really been much added if you think about it.. i recon BF2 is better.. but thats my opinion

I think you guys are nuts lol!

BF2142 plays WAY better than BF2, to top it off it looks just as good if not better. With BF2 I needed to play with higher resolutions and AA+AF but that took a hit on my system. BF2 is maxed out on my laptop and plays smoothly with the exception of whatever technique they are using on the exhaust for the aircraft becuase when I am gunning and look at the exhaust it can bring down the performance.

What I really like and think the guys at EA did a good job on is sniping.... it gets thejob done but I have yet to see the game swarming with snipers whic is awsome! In one game this guy RedDawn or something was always sniping but I always found him and put him in his place it was great!! I tried sniping and it was a bit boring but you can do it well with this game becuase I wasn't getting caught as long as I moved around.

Still hate EA though, maybe they've got it right with this game though.

I just read that the game has some spyware in it so that it monitors where you go so it can have more accurate ads in game for you to view.

YaY! I know now for sure I won't be buying this one.

Source? I've not seen anything like that, and I suspect it's rubbish. There are dynamic in-game ads which EA can change whenever they want, but no information about your PC outside of the game is sent back to EA at any point.

I think the main concern with most people is that you can't prevent it from being installed. In order to play online, you must allow it to be installed.

The spyware isnt spyware...its just for in game ads and they use your IP so u get ads in your geo...area..thingy

people are blowing it way out of porportion, i mean if it was spyware can u say class action lawsuit?

anyways i got it..my names FatFunkey

Conclude for yourself, but consider the first news entry for 10/18/06..

I won't be buying the game.

heh, funny how people see 'this hotfix causes problems with BF2142' and immediately conclude that the problem is with the spyware in the game. Microsoft have released a fix for the hotfix (good old MS) and the release notes for that fix say this:

"Programs that limit the application stack size to 2,048 bytes may not run after you install security update 917422"

the problem isn't that bf2142 was exploiting a security hole that the hotfix closed, the problem was that the hotfix broke something in windows.

    microsoft link

Personally I can understand why people have a problem with dynamic adverts, however I don't have a problem with EA monitoring what adverts I look at ingame and that's all the advertising program within BF2142 does. It doesn't look at anything on your system outside the game.

They're even spamming me in a game now. I don't care how they justify it, I won't be buying anything that forces adverts on me, ever.

I honestly have to say that I am very disapointed with BF 2142. I picked it up two days ago and it was a major letdown. No real widescreen support (not counting editing the .ini file because that is a "hack"). Buggy control mapping system. It is like everyone has been saying. It is nothing more than a reskin, that is supposedly in the future.

Titan mode is the only thing it has going for it. But it is DEFINATELY NOT WORTH $50. Maybe $30. but not $50. stay away from this one guys.
