Ram voltage/CH-5 Problems

My friend just bought an ASUS P4P800 and 2 sticks of pc3700 Buffalo mem (winbond, CH-5?).

The bios detects it as DDR320 (wtf?). He can set it to 200 (ddr400) but its unstable.

Anyone know whats going on? He also needs to set the memory voltage, but doesn't know the default setting.

The bios might detect it as ddr400 because of the cpu you're using. For instance when i put my 2500 in my amd system my ddr 400 was recognized as ddr 333 and when i put my 1800 in my ddr 433 was detected as ddr266. It's weird how it's unstable... not really sure what the deal with that is. Default voltage for memory is typically 2.6, but it can be setup to run at 2.9v easy. If the memory doesn't do pc3700 speeds at cas 2.5, 2.6 vdimm, with a 1:1 divider i'd definetly suggest rma'ing that stuff back.

edit: p4p800 is springdale p4c800 is canterwood. silly me

Check the CPU/DRAM ratio. It should be 1/1 or something similar.

Stock dimvolt is 2.5 but it will tkae as much as the board will give it in the bios.

    ok ill have him check.

thing is when he first booted to defaults, it booted at 160fsb, kinda weird eh?

You may want to also clear the CMOS first. Then go into bios and reset everything.
