Very, very basic XP security question

If I am behind a firewalled router, I log in with a long password, and none of my ports are "exposed", then how could someone from outside compromise my system?

With great difficulty. Only way they could do it is if you forwarded ports to your machine or downloaded something to do that, but it would have to be customised almost explicitly to your system. So you're pretty safe.
