Event ID 51- could this be v serious?!

Hey all,

My home pc has been crashing/stalling quite a lot recently (read 2-3 times an evening in the last few days)

I was going through the motions- Spyware scan with Lavasoft Ad-Aware and Spyboy S&D, was then going to do a trend micro online virus scan etc...

However, the pc keeps locking up quite a bit- so completing these tasks was tricky (and did not occur lol)

I DID manage to get to event viewer and look at the errors/warnings, one caught my eye that worried me:

"An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk6\D during a paging operation."

The thing with this is that- Harddisk6\D... what could that be?!! I have 2 hdd's one is drive C: and the other drive F:

(Also when being more rational- i managed to look again and see the same warning has come up since 18th July, and quite a bit in August- so is perhaps not such a concern?!)

In response to this and the poor performance of the pc i resorted to Knoppix and a 40gb usb drive- wacked some stuff on there to backup what I considered to be some vital stuff

So...... Is Event ID 51 serious?!

If it is not, whats the best way to diagnose the crashing/freezing on the pc to try and stop it! (I had process explorer open and cpu was @ 100% quite a bit- but svchost.exe was the only thing really kaining resources- everything else was minimal at that point)

I'm not so sure about the Event ID 51 thing, but for your computer it could be many things. One thing to check is the temp. of your CPU. If you load your BIOS you can check your CPU temp. If it is above 60C you should be a bit worried. If it is over 60C then cool down your room or check your CPU fan. If not, then it might be a software problem. I once had problems like this, and svchost took up huge amounts of my CPU (dual-core at 100%) the problem was that I could not connect to my network. So if you have a network connection, then open run and type msconfig and check what is running at boot. If there is anything suspicious, then deselect it and save, if not I have no idea. Good luck.
