What software are you using to create the video?

Thanks for replying, Rich D. Actually, a friend of mine sent me a film. It was a "winrar" file. After extracting, I had 2 files. The first one was a ".avi" file and the second was a file with the extension ".srt" (and the computer did not now which program to open the second one with). I did not know what the second file was, and openen it with notepad so that I could see the content. It was conversations of the film, so I thought that It must be the subtitle. But when I played the ".avi" file (with window media player 11), I could not see the subtitle of the film as expected. And now the ".srt" file is opened by notepad as default. I have tried to use Windows movie maker to recreate the subtitle but nothing happened.
    Thanks again.

Just keep the srt file together in the same folder as your avi file, then download mplayer and mencoder from here

    http://mewig.sourceforge.net/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=7

the mencoder comes with the mplayer if you want to encode movies

to display the subtitles download Directvobsub and install, it will automatically load the srt file into you player when you view your movie file.
