Struggling with network connection on Laptop

edited October 2006 in Science & Tech
I have currently got a laptop where my hard drive became damaged and I had to get that fixed and then re-install the master CD. Ever since this I have been having trouble hooking up onto the Internet. I have got a Atheros Network Card installed on the laptop and I think the problem is down to enabling the radio on it. When I go through the Atheros Client Utility and try and enable it, it is greyed out. I have tried deleting the network cards and letting windows pick them up again but this still doesnt pick up a connection. Has anyone got any ideas?

I don't know that Atheros utility....and by and large I always get rid of all those and use the Windows one. It works fine, and once you can use that you don't have to learn every manufacturer's utility for every computer you grab.

Greyed out ususally means it's not turned on or enabled. Most laptops have a way to turn the radio on and off. On Dells its usually Fn + F2, on others there is a switch somewhere. On ThinkPads its Fn + F5. Is there just a switch to turn the radio on/off?

If you go into network connections, right click on the wireless connection. If the card is enabled, the top item will be "disable". If not, click on "enable".
