Hello phatman and welcome to Short Media. There are a few online stores that I shop with regularly and are trustworthy. I'll give you some links here, along with the way I rate the stor/online shop. :) All these places are in the US, so if you live in Canada or Europe these vendors won't be able to help you out.

    1. http://www.newegg.com/ - The biggest and most complete online store to shop with. You can buy all the components from them to build just about whatever type of computer you want to build, from a cheapo machine just for email and casual web browsing to high end, highly overclocked SLI/Crossfire equiped gaming beasts. Or high end dual processor workstations or servers. Their prices are very competitive on most but not all items. Their shipping charges are generably reasonable except for small items like case fans and such. Generally very quick to get a shipment out; most of the time in 1 day or less. Very high resellerratings at www.resellerratings.com

    2. http://www.zipzoomfly.com - Another good online vendor that I've had excellent service from. Not quite as big a selection as Newegg and the website is more difficult to navigate, but has good pricing on a lot of their products and generally good shipping rates. This is another vendor I regularly look at when looking for components for a new build or a repair.

    3. http://www.mwave.com - Another vendor I've had service from in the past. Generally a good selection of components, but usually a little higher than Newegg or ZipZoomFly but they do have their moments. This is also another vendor I check regualrly when looking for something.

    4. http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/ - These people mainly deal with cooling items for you computer. Very competitive on pricing on heatsinks and fans and their service is just amazing. They are also rated very highly on resellerratings.com. I buy a lot of my cooling needs from these people.

    5. http://www.svc.com/ - Another online vendor who specializes in cooling products. I've ordered from them in the past with generally good results except they will occasionally mess up (in my experience). Also it can be a bit of a pain to deal with RMA's with them too. :(

Those 5 stores should give you a good start on where to look for you computer components.

As for putting it together, you're already in the finest place on the internet.

Airborn, you haven't looked at Resellerratings.com on Monarch latley have you? They now have a 6 month rating of only 4.90, even though the lifetime store rating is still at 8.65, which is still a significant drop from what it used to be. It looks like they are accepting orders for parts they don't have on hand and charging people for them, then using "the float" of the money they've charged on orders to actually operate with. I would be very hesitant to order anything significant with them until I see this trend turned around in the ratings at RR. They are also very slow to refund monies on cancelled orders too, with waits of over a month seemingly common nowdays. Not a vendor I would trust right now. It's a shame to see a company such as Monarch get into a bind like this and seem to be going down the tubes. :(
