A7N8X-E Deluxe hdd trouble

I have an A7N8X-E Deluxe it has been work okay since I bought it in 2004. A few days ago it came up with some errors on the hd after using scandisk it repaired bad spots in the FAT. It still was acting up so I figured that it must be the hd going bad. I backed up the hd and bought a new WD 80 Gig ultra ATA. When I installed it the mobo recognizes it after a long wait with the jumper on Master or will recognize it right away when I set it on cable select. I either case when I run fdisk it reads only 10781 mbytes then it says drive unreadable. Now it won't read the original Seagate drive. I changed cables and changed to secondary ide still have the same results.
I'm running Win 98 se

    I see no one has any advice must mean mobo is trash
    I guess I'll get a new mobo but never an asus again
