getting the most from my ISP

edited November 2006 in Science & Tech
I have a linksys router and I believe it is not secure. I put http my ip and went into the linksys setup page, clicked advanced and went to wireless. I allowed only 2 wireless things but after i put apply it would go back to allow all. Why is it doing this?

Should i run by static ip??? is it better/worse?

Static IP is something your ISP gives you, and it highly likely you're using DHCP.

As for the allowing two users part, I don't know, it depends on the router you're using and besides that doesn't make any difference. If your looking for more speed, you won't get much more than you already have unless you got some wacky setup. We need more info.

Heh, an ISP doesnt really have anything to do with an internal network :)

Using static IPs for your devices won't really make your network much more secure but is one thing you can do. WEP should help too.

I assumed he meant the WAN IP as routers generally have the option for PPPoE, DHCP, and Static IP for the WAN connection.
