Connectivity problems

edited November 2006 in Science & Tech
Hope I am at the right place.

Since about a week, after I boot up, and try to get on Internet, I get an error message and a window opens up with Network Diagnostic for XP. Then another smaller window open up and its like going through the wizard for windows XP connectivity. Following the steps I am able to get a connection but this procedure is getting to be a pain in you know where.

Anyone has any idea what is going on.???

I've looked at this a couple times Hoeman...maybe everyone else is stumped too. I just haven't seen this one, and don't know what would cause it. If you go to Internet Options, Connections tab then the "LAN Settings" button, are all the auto configuration boxes unchecked? Sometimes if its trying to configure to a proxy server that isn't there, it will hang for a while.

And if that doesn't do it, next time you reboot, before you bring up a browser go to the Start button, then Run, then type this in the box "cmd /k ipconfig /all", then hit enter. See if you've got the right IP address info before you hit the browser.

I probably should have asked too, is this a PPPoE DSL connection? If it is and there is a connection utility that starts when you boot up, that can take some time to authenticate and get you connected right after you start up.
