Disabled Account

edited November 2006 in Science & Tech
Hello all,

interesting problem here. We are running XP pro SP2 here at my university where I do tech support and are currently setting up machines for the deployment of Novell Zenworks. Orginally we had users logging into an account named 'default' generically. Now we are creating new profiles named after the user's zenworks account name and copying all the files from the default account to the new account. After this we disable the default account and activate zenworks.

Problem is, a couple of machines have had problems with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Frontpage, and Smart FTP pointing people to the 'default' account's My Documents. Most of these people are not smart enough to click the drop down menu and select the My Documents folder that coordinates with their new account, they just call me instead. I was wondering if anyone has encountered anything like this or would know how to prevent this from happening if I run into it again (have a feeling I will) WITHOUT having to delete the old 'default' account just keeping it disabled

Don't make me look it up, but isn't there a switch for "Folder redirection" in group policy? Then you could make a group policy object for it and for each user you switch you go into AD and activate the GPO. I don't think that gives you everything you want, but it might stop the phone calls from users who start a long explaination with "it's telling me".

I'm not familiar with Zenworks. Are you manually creating these accounts, or are they created dynamically with a network login?
