[Solved]Virus burster 6.2 - (mgdavid)

Hi, another newbie, treat me gently please! I have picked up Virusburster; mainly visible in the system tray. I think I've read the appropriate stickies and done the basics (AdAware, SpyBot etc). All I've achieved so far is to find and eliminate Trojan Zlob, and would very much appreciate some help from here on, hope I've not missed anything vital at this stage.

OK, I found the Sticky on Smitfraud removal, and it's all fixed now.
Ace instructions - a piece of cake - many many thanks to all who make this site possible.

Glad the guide helped you remove Smitfraud.

Two things:

1) Java needs to be updated, and 2) your running TWO anti-virus programs (AVG and Norton) running. Thats not a good idea, as they will conflict and cause problems. You should remove one of them from Add/Remove programs.

Updating Java:

• Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9.
• Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications."
• Click the "Download" button to the right.
• Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement."
• The page will refresh.
• Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
• Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
• Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
• Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
• Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
• Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
• Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
• Then from your desktop double-click on jre-1_5_0_09- windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Many thanks for the extra advice; all Norton stuff now removed (it came with the Dell PC but it was a PITA) and Java updated too. Thanks again.....

Just one more thing. Now that you have removed Norton, you don't have a Firewall, correct? If not, then download one from the list below - They are Free!

Thanks again; I'm just using WXP ICF; so many peeps have recommended ZA that I s'pose I really have no excuse - will load it tonight. Does it need much configuring? Once that's done, yes this thread is resolved !

Do you have a network? If you do, then Zone Alarm would need a little configuring.

No multihost network - just a single PC on wireless to ADSL box.

ZoneAlarm loaded and running OK - a few hiccups and it noticeably slows things down - nothing I can't live with. Time to close this thread; thankyou again.
