Windows Icons Problems on Desktop

edited November 2006 in Science & Tech
I posted this in the wrong list earlier. Sorry.

I have a few users in the office here that are using Windows XP SP2, Lotus notes 7, Microsoft office 2002 professional. Sometimes when they click on an icon on the desktop it highlights quite a few around that one too. When you click on it all those programs start opening up. Also sometimes when excel is open up it will start highlighting many cells. We have tried clicking F8 and sometimes that happens. Also we have tried the sticky keys cancelling and that doesn't work all the time either. Sometimes we have to just shut down the computer to get it to stop. Any ideas?
Thanks

Had a client who something similar. Suddenly, his shortcuts would only work if they were in a certain part of the desktop. Outside of some invisible boundary they didn't work. He picked at it for months till he killed all the proceeses behind a credit card processing app he had running all the time. That fixed it. Must have been some update for it. Now he just brings up the credit card app when he needs it.

So maybe if its just certain users you ask yourself what app they have in common?

This could be a couple of things. Sometimes Stickey keys is active when you think it isn't. Either it resets itself to being 'on' when you login, or it's activated by holding the shift key down for 5 seconds. Occasionally you hit a weird windows bug where windows thinks a modifier key (ie: shift) is down when it isn't. Pressing the left & right shift buttons at the same time should release it. If you're lucky.

Been away for few days. Thanks for the replies. Will try and see if that works.
