trojan.small.fb [Resolved]

Hi all, I joined up today to get some help in ridding me of the aforementioned thing!

I have been plagued for a few days by strange redirections from Google searches. Nothing malicious (I Hope) just shopping websearch pages and the like. I have run ccleaner, avg antispyware and hijackthis and although it found the bugs it seemed unable to rid me of them. Looking round the internet I found fixwareout and ran the prog. Although it seemed to do nothing at all the problem seems to be cured.

Does anyone know exactly what small.fb does?

I can attach the logs from HJT and fixwareout if any one is remotely interested.

Thanks anyway. From reading previous threads I got some direction.

dltbgyd!

small.fb has been known to be related to Wareout. Wareout is a DNS hijacker so it would be no surprise that you were redirected on searches and stuff. With that said though just running Fixwareout by itself might not completely take care of the problem. Could you please post your Hijack This log and the fixwareout log?

I don't see any evidence that the log was ever infected with Wareout, but this file:

    lsadst.exe

is a real stinker just as you suspected. It has backdoor capabilities so please follow the instructions below:

Run Hijack This again and put a check (tick) next to the following:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WindowsProtocolLog] lsadst.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WindowsProtocolLog] lsadst.exe

Close all other browsers/windows and click Fix Checked. Close Hijack This.

Make sure that you can see hidden files and folders:
    • Click "Start".
    • Click "My Computer".
    • Select the "Tools" menu and click "Folder Options".
    • Select the "View" tab.
    • Under the "Hidden files and folders" heading, select "Show hidden files and folders".
    • Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" option.
    • Click "Yes" to confirm.
    • Uncheck the "Hide file extensions for known file types".
    • Click "OK".

    Then,

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
    • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
    • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
    • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
    • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
    • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
    • Login on your usual account.

Use the Windows Search feature to look for and delete every instance of the file (don't worry if you can't find it):

    lsadst.exe

Reboot into normal mode and post a fresh Hijack This log.

    Thanks Skywalker45

I have completed the tasks as required. I found NO instances of lsadst.exe during safe mode search and here is the new HJT log:

The log looks fine to me but I'll give it a very scrutinizing look. In the meantime please let me know if you're having any more problems.

    Once again THANKS!

Of the people I know I am considered computer literate. Now from reading various posts and threads on the site I have come to realise that I'm walking down dog-pooh street wearing a blindfold!

    Keep up the good work
