[Inactive]Dissapearing files
I was just learning about rootkits and downloaded a rootkit detector. I unjpluged my internet connection and the box started acting funny right away. I closed all open threds and closed all open programs, When I started the rootkit detector it only showed three entries and shut down my puter. I restarted, shutdown open apps and stoped unnessary threds and started it again, Guess what! Samething happened. shutdown. At this point I thought something funny was about happen so i created a folder to save all my programs in to transfer to another drive for safty. All of a sudden I noteced icons dissapearing off my desktop so I opened the new folder to see if the files I was saving was still there, but they was gone. I opened another folder and it was also empty. I shut down immeditaly to try to stop the damage but the puter would'nt restart as system files was missing. Now I am trying to find the virus and get rid of it and try to restore my files through DOS. I know a little bit about puters but by far an expert so anyone have sugestions. I will be eternaly gratefull
Thanks for any help at all

Sounds like something isn't playing nice. I'd need to see a HijackThis log first.
Click here to download HJTsetup.exe, and save it to your desktop.
- Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
- By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
- Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the "Select Addition Tasks" dialogue.
- Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
- Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
- At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
- Click on the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
- Copy and paste the log here
DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required. Also, I've removed your email address to avoid spam!
