[Solved]downloader.zlob.aty problem

downloader.zlob.aty situation...

I've tried various things (spybot, ad-aware, AVG, smitfraud, etc) with no success. I've ran the AVG program in safemode and it finds the problem but it won't put the infected files in quarantine, although it says it does. When I check the quarantine area, they aren't there and the files show up on subsequent scans.

It seems I installed this problem with a video codec download last week. The only problem I seem to have is that I get redirected when I click on links generated by search engines such as Google.

Hi Dave! In the thread title you mention downloader.zlob. I don't see any evidence of that particular infection in your HijackThis log and that may be because you ran SmitfruadFix? Please let me know if that is the case.

Please do the following...

• Run Hijackthis.
• Click on Open the Misc Tools section.
• Next click on Open uninstall manager.
• Press the Save list button.
• Save the file to your desktop, with the default name of uninstall_list
• Copy & Paste the entire contents of that file in your in your next post.

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites and save it to your desktop:

• Double click Fixwareout.exe to run it.
• Click Next, then Install.
• Make sure Run fixit is checked and click Finish.
• The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
• You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
• Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
• At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.
• A report.txt file will be created in the C:\fixwareout folder. Please keep it safe as I'll need to see it soon.

Now lets check some settings on your system.

(2000/XP) Only

• Click Start > Connect to > Show all connections.
• Right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl.
• Left click on Properties.
• Click the Networking tab.
• Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically.
• Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks. (That option might not be avaiable on some systems).

Next!

• Click Start > Run type cmd and hit OK.
• Type ipconfig /flushdns then hit enter, (Note: there is a space between ipconfig and /flushdns).
• Type exit hit enter.

Please do an online scan with Panda ActiveScan

- Once you are on the Panda site, click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.

I turned off the system restore feature earlier today. Is it safe to activate it? Should I do anything to erase the evil memories of my problem?

Yes, you can enable System Restore. Also, it is advised to always keep System Restore enabled in case anything went wrong during the fix, we could have used System Restore as a backup. A good rule to remember is that an infected restore point is better than no restore point at all.
