Keyboard and mouse not working

edited November 2006 in Hardware
About 2 months ago my boyfriend's mother's computer had shut itself off and when she turned it back on the screen said to boot from CD. I had tried that and then I got a message that said keyboard failure and her mouse wasn't working either. She had an e-machine and she is an accountant for a family business and she needs the computer for the recordkeeping. To make a long story short, my boyfriend swapped the hard drive from his mother's computer with his hard drive and nothing worked.

When he put his hard drive back in his computer he now gets a keyboard failure and the mouse doesn't work at all. I have put in the Windows XP disk and it will go to the Owner screen but I can't choose anything because of the mouse and keyboard not working.

I'm not sure if this can be fixed at all or if I'll just have to suck it up and get a new computer.

So, let me get this right..

Boyfriend's mom's PC has a mouse and keyboard that stop working.
Your boyfriend swaps the hard drive from his PC to her PC.
Your boyfriend swaps his hard drive back into his PC and now his keyboard and mouse don't work either?
