Mouse Key Binding in Games

Ok, this is a bit annoying as of late. For some reason I am able to use my MX500s extra buttons in some games by not binding them to a keystroke (HL, MaxPayne2) and others (Halo) I have to bind the buttons as keystrokes before they are useful. Also, I've started Max Payne 2, and one start it will bind the key to MB5, but the next time around it won't want to do it. ReBoot, and now it'll bind as MB5. WTF is up with this inconsistency?? Latest mouseware and all that jazz too. Also, it isn't a problem with the buttons themselves, cause they always work fine, its just that sometimes the damn games won't detect the back and forward buttons as MB4 and MB5. Any ideas?

Some games have trouble with more than the standard number of mouse buttons (3). I remember reading somewhere in the readme document with MP2 that they do not support more than the three standard mouse buttons. They also said the only way to make this work is to set the buttons you would like to use as a keystroke (in Mouseware) and set this key to do the desired result in MP2.

TheSmJ: The point with this is that the game should work with a mouse that has any number of buttons as it supports it (Its not an old game that wont accept MB5/4).

Try reinstalling the drivers. Also do you have a utility running which binds it to something else?

I get the same thing with my mx500, I have lost all hope with it and now just bind those actions to keyboard buttons.
