PS3 Update 1.11 Mysteries

PS3 users have been left scratching their heads over Sony's firmware upgrade for the PS3. According to Ars Technica there are a number of bugs which the PS3 has, but Sony's version 1.11 upgrade did not seem to fix any of them.

There are a couple of threads that have opened on various PS3 message boards with the hope of trying to find the bug that version 1.11 fixed. Gamespot was able to confirm that a new account management tab has been added, so PS3 users can add more money to their virtual wallet to spend online without having to go to the store.
Apparently the Blu-ray scaling issue wasn't fixed, the browser is still slow, the store doesn't look different and there is no background downloading.

    I personally updated my unit and saw nothing new, nor can I find the official release notes from Sony? The list on the website only shows us the 1.10 stuff and has a 1.11 title.

    Makes me wonder if Sony is hiding something? But hey as long as the console works and keeps looking super sweet, I have no beef with Sony or the update.

    According to Sony's support website the update allows the PS3 to report serial numbers from 3rd party devices and imported games to their "customer management database."

    This database is then tied in with their "marketing database" to track where items are being purchased.

    If Sony finds a high number of items being sold from unlicensed stores, it allows them to track the store and "take appropriate action" for "quality assurance to our clients."

    Meanwhile,no errors were fixed.
