Please Check My PC

Hello, Short-Media. Thank you for this service.

My PC started acting slow and is being cranky about doing some things on the web- I use Internet Explorer. So my husband looked at it and said he thinks I have picked up a virus or spyware. He gave me a link to here, so here I am with both a HijackThis log and a Kapersky one. I've done most of what you asked in your thread (I only ran the Kapersky anti-virus- the Panda scan didn't want to run because of the server(?)). Kapersky did pick up something, but I can't make heads or tails about what it found or what to do.

If you can figure this out, please help. If you find something, please give me an idea about how I may have got it. I'm usually pretty careful.

Again, Thank you for your time!

HijackThis log!

Hi Su4Kids and welcome to Short-Media Forums!

I've pasted your HijackThis log into the thread as it makes it easier to read. Kaspersky log was too long to fit into one post, so I left it out.

Your log is not showing much, just a few things need to go. Lets see what we can do.

I would like to see another log from HijackThis.
    • Run Hijackthis.
    • Click on Open the Misc Tools section.
    • Next click on Open uninstall manager.
    • Press the Save list button.
    • Save the file to your desktop, with the default name of uninstall_list
    • Copy & Paste the entire contents of that file in your in your next post.
    _____________________

    Open HijackThis
    - Click the Do a system scan only button
    - Check the following entries (below)

    O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
    O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

...(Unless you set these with a anti-spyware program like SpyBot's Immunize feature, or a System Administrator set them, have HiJackThis fix this.)

    - Close ALL open windows (especially Internet Explorer!)
    - Click Fix Checked
    Close HiajckThis

Thanks, Trogan. Sorry this took so long- the scan took about two hours, so I left it overnight.

It didn't look like your picture after I followed your directions to set up AVG-Antispyware- it came up with "Delete" instead of “Quarantine” next to all the “Threats”. They all had a “Medium” Risk next to them too. I set all elements to “Quarantine” but they all still stayed “Delete” and when I pressed the “Apply all actions” button, it looked like it may have deleted them all. I hope that didn’t mess things up. At any rate, here is the Scan report and the new HijackThis log.

I honestly don’t know how you do all this, but thank you!

    Hi,

AVG only found Cookies, which are harmless. I don't know why, but AVG prefers to delete them instead of Quarantine them but its not a big deal.

Your logs are not showing much. Can you tell me if your still having problems? If so, what are they? We may need to have a deeper look.

Thank you very much, Trogan. This may be good news.

Right now my husband (he is away) is having me do a defrag of my disk and is suggesting I use FireFox and upgrade to Internet Explorer 7. When I get done with all that, I'll try it out and see if my PC is any different- and keep some notes this time. I'm out and about quite a bit (especially when it's Christmas with lots of children), it may be a few days before I get back to you again- is that OK or should I start another thread then?

If there is anything else you might suggest, please do.

Once again- thank you for your very quick and incredible service-

    Su

No problem about any delay. Take your time.

A defrag is a very good idea. Using Firefox would be better.

Let me know if the suggestions your husband provided solve any problems with the computer. If not, we can try other tools.
